Our New Connectivity and Why We NEED to Use Social Media in The Classroom
Planting the Seeds of Inclusion: Supporting the Growth of All Children (UW-Oshkosh)
Social media has impacted youth worldwide with its ease of use and ability to connect with others.  Over the last decade, computer and mobile device use has increased exponentially among students and adults.  Facebook has over 750 million active users.  There are more than 250 million active users currently accessing Facebook through mobile devices.  Many of our school districts are opening up their networks to allow students to bring their own devices to school to connect to the internet.  This presentation will explore current trends affected by technology and the important role that social media plays within our society.  We will review current trends in the use of social media, explain state and federal legislation regarding school districts' responsibilities, investigate potential "trouble" spots when using social media with students and offer strategies and tools to improve your educational practice.
